MODEL SELECTION
# Local AI Image Models: How to Choose One
Choose a local image model by workflow, device fit, license, output needs, runtime support, and test results.

Short answer Choose the smallest model that meets your output needs, fits the device, works in your runtime, and has acceptable terms.

## Which criteria matter most?
Start with task fit, runtime support, device fit, license, output quality, and maintenance status.

- Task fit includes portraits, illustration, text, editing, control, or enhancement.
- Runtime support determines whether your app can load the model correctly.
- Device fit includes memory, storage, compute support, and acceptable generation time.
- License terms can limit model use, distribution, or commercial deployment.

## Does a larger model always produce better images?
No. Larger models can add capability, but they also increase memory, storage, and compute needs.
A focused smaller model can perform well for a narrow style or task. Optimization can also change practical performance.
Compare output on your device. Cloud benchmarks do not predict every mobile workflow.

## How should you check a model license?
Read the exact license distributed with the exact model version.

- Check personal, research, commercial, and production permissions.
- Check output rights separately from model-weight rights.
- Check attribution, redistribution, and derivative model conditions.
- Check use restrictions and required safety controls.
- Record the model version and license review date.

## What should your model test set contain?
Use prompts that match your normal subjects, styles, composition, text, and failure risks.
Keep prompts and settings stable across models. Compare several outputs because one seed can mislead you.
Score usefulness, prompt adherence, defects, generation time, heat, and file size.

## How do model families differ?
Stable Diffusion and FLUX offer broad ecosystems, but individual variants have different requirements and terms.
A model name alone does not define the experience. The interface, scheduler, precision, guidance, and enhancement steps also matter.
Offlair presents supported models through a mobile workflow. Check the app model list for current availability.

COMMON QUESTIONS
## Frequently asked questions

### What is a checkpoint? +
A checkpoint stores trained model parameters. Its architecture and runtime must be compatible.

### What is quantization? +
Quantization uses lower-precision values to reduce resource needs. It can change speed, size, and output.

### Can every local model run on a phone? +
No. The model architecture, runtime, operations, and device resources must all be compatible.

### Can I use local model outputs commercially? +
Check the exact model license and applicable law. Local processing alone gives no commercial permission.
